The Slovenian Government Office for Information Security has announced a state of increased threat in connection with the detection of malicious software on Chinese memory carriers. These devices were purchased by several state institutions from a private supplier. As reported, there was a virus on the carriers enabling data to steal.
As the director responsible for cyber security Urosz Svete Infected Government Office for Information Security, the devices were detected at the headquarters of the accounting tribunal, which bought them as part of a tender from a private supplier.
The presence of harmful software was signaled by anti -virus programs installed on office computers. This fact was immediately reported to the relevant services.
Threat to cybersecurity
– The virus is a serious challenge and threat to cyber security. Technically speaking, it is a preparation for conducting a cyber attack, 'Svete said, explaining that the software does not damage the data in itself, but running remotely allows theft of information contained on infected equipment.
In the course of the proceedings, it was established that the company, which, as part of the tender, supplied memory media containing spying software, also sold them to other state institutions as well as private recipients.

Red -handed media
Gregor Bogataj, director of the Extra Lux company, bringing the device, informed in an interview with the N1 television portal that the media were “in the original supplier's packaging and were not repacked, nor did any other interference were made in them.”
He also assured that the company immediately began implementing all the necessary internal procedures in order to clarify the circumstances of the event and fully cooperates with the police. At the same time, in order to protect customers, it was decided to withdraw from the use of all USB Memoirs of the Chinese manufacturer, which have recently been on sale.
