Small nuclear reactors in Poland. Letters of intent signed

American institutions declare support of USD 4 billion for the project of installing small modular reactors based on SMR technology in Poland. The project is being implemented by Orlen Synthos Green Energy in cooperation with GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. Letters of intent in this regard were signed at the US Embassy in Warsaw.

Orlen Synthos Green Energy is involved in the construction of small nuclear power facilities using the BWRX-300 reactor from GE Hitachi. Ultimately, in the years 2029-2036, a network of ecologically clean SMR nuclear power plants with a total capacity of approximately 10,000 MWe is to be built in Poland.

US Ambassador to Poland on energy security

Ambassador USA in Poland Mark Brzezinski informed that American institutions declare support of USD 4 billion for the SMR project of Orlen and Syntos. Letters of intent in this regard were signed at the US Embassy in Warsaw.

As indicated, the letter of intent with EXIM Bank talks about USD 3 billion in financing the project, while the letter from DFC (Development Finance Corporation) – about the possibility of supporting USD 1 billion for the construction of the first two power plants with BWRX-300 reactors, designed by GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy ( GEH).

US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski emphasized that this important partnership appears at a turning point. – Invasion Russia to Ukraine underlines the incredible need for rapid transformations towards safe energy sources. Poland needs more solutions in the field of energy, Poland needs safe energy sources to defend itself against the bad influence of Russia – said Brzezinski.

“Poland needs clean energy sources to meet its climate commitments and needs a reliable source of energy to fuel its economy and create well-paying jobs,” the US ambassador stressed.

Mark Brzezinski pointed out that cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy is at the heart of bilateral relations between Poland and the USA.
