Friday evening in parts of Poland is marked by significantly worsened air quality. There is a region where breathing is bad and the standards are exceeded by several hundred percent. Check where the smog is.

According to data from 8 p.m., poor air quality in terms of PM10 dust was recorded in Dębica (Podkarpacie), where the value of 119 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3) was measured, i.e. 238 percent of the daily norm. The residents of the nearby area breathed slightly better air, but still not meeting the quality standards Jarosław (Podkarpacie) (95 µg/m3, i.e. 190% of the daily norm).

Exceeding the standards for PM2.5 dust was also observed. IN Dębica at Józefa Piłsudskiego Avenue, the measured concentration was 102 µg/m3, i.e. as much as 408%. daily norm. IN Jarosław the concentration level was 66 µg/m3, or 264%. daily norm.

In the surrounding cities of Podkarpacie, air quality standards were also exceeded – it was average.

When the air quality is good

We talk about good quality air when the concentration of harmful dust does not exceed:

  • in the case of PM10 dust – 50 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3);
  • in the case of PM2.5 dust – 25 µg/m3.

What is PM10

PM10 is a mixture of particles suspended in the air with a diameter not exceeding 10 micrometers. Its occurrence is related, among other things, to the combustion processes of solid and liquid fuels.

What is PM2.5

PM2.5 is a mixture of particles suspended in the air with a diameter not exceeding 2.5 micrometers. According to the World Health Organization, it is the most harmful atmospheric pollutant to humans.
