Smog in Poland – Friday, February 9. Check the air quality in your city

The air quality in Poland deteriorated after a few days. On Friday evening, smog hangs over parts of the country again. The worst situation is in the south.

On Saturday at 9 p.m. the worst air quality, described as bad, was in… Przemyśl, Łagów and Skarżysko-Kamienna. The concentration of PM2.5 dust there was 119 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3), i.e. 476%. daily norm), 98 µg/m3, i.e. 392 percent daily norm), 93 µg/m3, i.e. 372 percent daily norm.

Unhealthy and average air quality was recorded in some cities in the southern part of the country, both for PM2.5 and PM10. This was the case, among others, in StarachowiceNowy Targ, OpoleŻywiec and Jarosław.


When the air quality is good

We talk about good quality air when the concentration of harmful dust does not exceed:

  • in the case of PM10 dust – 50 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3);
  • in the case of PM2.5 dust – 25 µg/m3.

What is PM10

PM10 is a mixture of particles suspended in the air with a diameter not exceeding 10 micrometers. Its occurrence is related, among other things, to the combustion processes of solid and liquid fuels.

What is PM2.5

PM2.5 is a mixture of particles suspended in the air with a diameter not exceeding 2.5 micrometers. According to the World Health Organization, it is the most harmful atmospheric pollutant to humans. It reaches not only the respiratory system, but also the circulatory system. It stays in our body much longer.
