The Ministry of National Defense also issued a statement on this matter. It is written that on December 15, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, together with the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, signed a decision, initialed by Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk, “under which, members of the Subcommittee of the Ministry of National Defense for the re-examination of the Tu-154 air accident, the disaster, which took place near Smolensk on April 10, 2010, were dismissed from the State Aviation Accident Investigation Commission with effect from December 15, 2023.

As reported, the decision of the head of the Ministry of National Defense to terminate the activities of the so-called the Smolensk subcommittee was issued on the basis of applicable law and in the same manner as this subcommittee was established.

“It was the Minister of National Defense who, through his decision, established and defined the scope of activities of the Smolensk subcommittee. Pursuant to the regulations, the issue of both the deadline for establishing the subcommittee to re-examine the air accident and the definition of the scope of its work is solely at the discretion of the Minister of National Defense. If it is determined that the activities of the subcommittee are no longer necessary, the Minister of National Defense may dissolve such a commission in the same manner in which he established it,” the Ministry of Defense noted in a statement.

It was recalled that in the case of the Smolensk subcommittee, its dissolution took place on December 15, 2023, and the current chairman of the subcommittee was obliged by the Ministry of National Defense to provide documentation and fixed assetswith which the subcommittee was equipped, to relevant entities. “We would also like to remind you that a special team will be established in the near future to analyze every aspect of the activities of the liquidated subcommittee,” it added.
