There have been two road accidents involving moose on the roads of Sochaczew County. Police are appealing to drivers to exercise particular caution on the road.
– On Monday at around 7:30 p.m., the Sochaczew police station received a report of a road accident on the bypass. A road traffic patrol went to the scene. It was determined that a 50-year-old Toyota driver hit a moose that had wandered onto the roadway. A similar incident occurred on national road no. 50 in Młodzieszyn. Fortunately, none of the drivers required medical assistance – said Senior Asp. Agnieszka Dzik from the Sochaczew police.
There are warning signs
Roads where you can most often expect to see wild animals are marked with a warning sign A-18b – “Caution, wild animals”. It shows a yellow sign in the shape of a triangle depicting a jumping deer. There may be a sign underneath with the length of the section where the danger may occur.

Drivers must Be especially vigilant on roads leading through fields, meadows or forests. Hitting a moose can end tragically, and not only for the animal. A hit moose weighing several hundred kilograms can break through the windshield and fall into the vehicle, which can cause very serious injuries to drivers and passengers, or even lead to their death.

What to do if a collision occurs
In the event of a collision with an animal that has died, you should contact the road administrator or the police. If a driver has hit any animal (e.g. a dog, cat, deer) they should stop and check if the animal is alive.
“Call the appropriate municipal office or 112 and inform where the incident occurred. Never be indifferent to the fate of a hit animal lying on the road. Leaving him on the road is sentencing him to certain death” – the police remind. – “We once again appeal to exercise caution on the road, especially in the area of forests, fields and meadowsk. Please drive within the speed limit and obey the signs informing about hazards – they add.
