British singer and model Sophie Ellis-Bextor, author of the hit “Murder On The Dancefloor”, confessed that she was raped when she was 17 years old. She described her memories in a book that had just been published.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor, a British singer – and formerly a model – has published the latest book containing her memoirs. “Spinning Plates” caught the attention of the British media with an excerpt in which Ellis-Bextor confesses that she lost her virginity at the age of 17 when she fell victim to the then 29-year-old guitarist who raped her.

“I heard myself saying, ‘No’ and ‘I don’t want it’, but it changed nothing,” wrote the singer, quoted by BBC News, among others. “He had sex with me and I felt ashamed. It was how I lost my virginity and felt stupid,” she continued.

“I felt disgraced, but also unsure of my own feelings, because I had no experience to compare it with,” she added. In a book that is published in parts on Mail On Sunday, Ellis-Bextor describes how she got to know the musician – Jim named by her. It was during one of the concerts, when she was still preparing for her final exams. He invited her to his apartment to show her his history books and “before she knew it, they were lying on his bed and he took off my panties.”

Sophie Ellis-Bextor: I was not heard

The singer explained that she chose to share her own experiences to help people understand “where the border between good and evil lies.” “My experiences were not related to violence” – she assessed. “It all happened because I was not heard. There were two people, one said ‘yes’, the other ‘no’ and the one who said ‘yes’ did what she wanted despite the objections of the other,” she continued.

42-year-old Ellis-Bextor gained international popularity in 2003 with the single “Murder On The Dancefloor”. She was nominated for the Brit Award several times.

As the BBC News reminds us, during the social isolation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the singer won the sympathy of fans by organizing discos in her kitchen for 10 weeks. The accounts attracted thousands of fans to her Instagram account. The kitchen parties were accompanied by her husband and five children.
