Sopot police stopped a 25-year-old Audi driver for inspection, who had registration plates from another vehicle. He had the actual one in his bag.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around 1:00 a.m. Sopot policemen from the patrol and intervention unit at ul. Grunwaldzka, the driver of an Audi S3 was stopped for inspection.

“A 25-year-old man from GdaÅ„sk was behind the wheel. When the police approached the car, they immediately noticed his nervous behavior and ordered him to get out of the car. A 25-year-old from Gdańsk was detained and put in a police cell, and the car he borrowed was towed to a police parking lot.

On Wednesday, based on the evidence collected, a man from Gdańsk was charged with using license plates that were not assigned to the car he was driving. The man pleaded guilty.

The police would like to remind you that on October 1, 2023, an amendment to the Penal Code regarding Article 306c of the Penal Code entered into force, under which driving a car with false license plates is treated as a crime.

The man now faces a penalty of 3 months to 5 years in prison.

§ 1. Whoever confiscates or alters the registration plate of a motor vehicle, enabling the vehicle to be admitted to traffic in the territory of the Republic of Poland, or who counterfeits or alters it in order to use it as an authentic registration plate, shall be subject to the penalty of imprisonment from 3 months to 5 years. § 2. The same penalty shall apply to anyone who uses a license plate of a motor vehicle that is not assigned to the vehicle on which it is affixed, or uses a forged or forged license plate of a motor vehicle as an authentic one.
