Sopot. They stole jewelry worth one million euros from the car. A Kosovo citizen was detained in Germany

One of the jewelry fair exhibitors was in a restaurant in Sopot when two men broke into his car and stole a jewel worth one million euros. Police findings show that the perpetrators are two Kosovo citizens. One was detained in Germany and brought to Poland. The other one is still hiding. They face from one to 10 years in prison.

In March last year, the Amberif Spring International Amber Fair was held at the AmberExpo hall in Gdańsk. On March 25, after the event, one of the exhibitors went to a restaurant in Sopot for dinner.

During this time, unknown perpetrators broke into a car parked in front of the premises. They stole several hundred pieces of rings, necklaces and bracelets (made of gold studded with precious stones, including diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and rubies). He estimated the value of the stolen jewelry at one million euros.

The suspects are two Kosovo citizens

The police working on the case secured recordings from surveillance cameras and identified and searched many places where the perpetrators could be hiding. They also secured a number of forensic traces that were analyzed. Cooperation was also established with the German police and liaison officers, including: from Scandinavia and Albania.

This led to the identification of suspects. These are citizens of the Republic of Kosovo: 56-year-old Jeton B. and 50-year-old Andreii M.

The prosecutor's office issued an arrest warrant and a European Arrest Warrant for them.

One was detained in Germany

“On October 17, 2024, there was a breakthrough in the case. One of the suspects, Andrea M. (aged 50), was detained in the Federal Republic of Germany. On November 20, 2024, he was handed over to Polish law enforcement authorities,” he writes in the release prosecutor Mariusz DuszyÅ„ski, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in GdaÅ„sk.

The suspect was charged and interrogated as a suspect. He pleaded not guilty and exercised his right to remain silent. He will remain in custody until February 14.

“The second suspect, Jeton B., is still wanted on the basis of the European Arrest Warrant. The crime charged against the suspects under Article 279, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code is punishable by imprisonment from one to 10 years. The investigation remains ongoing,” the prosecutor notes.
