“Philippines, USA, Japan and Australia will hold a joint meeting on Sunday maneuvers in the South China Sea – the AFP news agency reported on Thursday, citing two diplomatic sources.

The maneuvers will be carried out a few days before summit in Washingtonduring which the US president Joe Biden will meet with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

A meeting of leaders is scheduled to take place in the White House April 11.

“It is expected to be announced during the summit organizing joint patrols with the participation of the American, Japanese and Philippine Coast Guards in the South China Sea,” said one of the diplomatic sources cited by the agency.

As reported by AFP, on Tuesday Australian warship HMAS Warramunga moored in Puerto Princesa on the Philippine island of Palawan, near the disputed area. The purpose of the visit is to “strengthen military relations with partner countries”, as reported by the Philippine army.
