Joint military exercises of South Korea and the US

US and South Korean troops will conduct a study exercise next week in Pentagons in a nuclear scenario by North Korea. The purpose of the simulation is to discuss crisis management and military responses, the Seoul Ministry of Defense said.

“Focusing on North Korea’s nuclear threats, the two sides will hold in-depth discussions on ways to enhance US enhanced deterrence, as well as intelligence sharing and consultation procedures between the two countries,” the South Korean ministry said in a statement.

According to the Yonhap news agency, one of the elements of the exercises will be a visit by a South Korean delegation to a US military base where submarines carrying nuclear weapons are stationed. During previous exercises of this kind, South Korean officials have already visited bases with intercontinental ballistic missiles and bombers.

Pyongyang threatens with nuclear weapons

North Korea last year conducted its largest number of missile tests per year, and threatened the US and South Korea with nuclear weapons. It also amended its nuclear doctrine, allowing the use of such weapons in a pre-emptive attack.

The leader of the country Kim Jong Un announced an “exponential increase” in the nuclear arsenal.
