A court in Seoul responded positively to the request filed by the Corruption Investigation Office of Senior Officials (CIO). The case concerns temporary detention deposed president South Korea Jun Suk Jeola.
The politician will be in custody another 20 days. The court fears that the suspect at large could destroy evidence in the case. Let us remind you that he is accused of abuse of power and organizing a coup.
All in connection with the events of December 3, when Jun Suk Jeol introduced martial law. Ultimately, the politician had to surrender because the proposal was not accepted by the South Korean parliament.

The decision of the court in Seoul was met with… a decisive reaction supporters of the detained president. Some of them entered the building, destroyed property and attacked the officers staying there. Meanwhile, they shouted the name of the suspended Jun Suk Jeol. Police reinforcements were sent to the site to quell the protest.
Reuters reported that the CIO's decision was motivated by the lack of willingness to cooperate on the part of the politician, who, among other things, he refused to participate in the interrogations. Under current law, Jeol should undergo medical examinations, be photographed and wear a prison uniform while in custody.

The events of December 3 led to a deep political crisis in South Korea. The consequence of the president's actions was the initiation of impeachment proceedings. Finally on December 14 parliament suspended his presidential powers.
Since then The Constitutional Tribunal has 180 days to decidewhether to approve the president's dismissal or reinstate him. The first hearing in this case lasted only four minutes because the leader did not appear.
Yet several high-ranking officials have already been arrested in connection with their role in imposing martial law, including military commanders and former Defense Minister Kim Jong Hjun.
