South Korean services have extracted the bodies of seven people from a flooded tunnel. Heavy downpours in South Korea led to floods and mudslides.

The flooded tunnel is located in the central part of the country, in Osong-city, Chungcheongbuk-do province. The services reported that they had found and pulled out the bodies of seven people. Across the country, at least 33 people have died as a result of the downpours that have lasted for several days.

The local fire department said about 15 vehicles, including a bus, were trapped in the flooded tunnel. – We are focused on the rescue operation. There are probably more people there,” firefighter Seo Jeong-il told Reuters.

The Korean interior ministry said nearly 8,000 people had been evacuated across the country. As a result of the downpours, the movement of most trains was also suspended due to the risk of mudslides, flooding or falling stones.

President Yoon Suk-yeol instructed Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to mobilize all possible services and resources to minimize losses and casualties. Rainfall is expected to continue on Sunday.
