The search continues for the young man who fatally stabbed an 11-year-old boy on Sunday morning. The attack took place on a football pitch in Mocejon in central Spain. According to media reports, the boy was stabbed at least 11 times. The attacker allegedly escaped the scene through a hole in a fence and then drove away in a gray sedan. The city has declared three days of mourning. The child's death was also honored with a minute of silence.
At around 10 a.m. on Sunday, an unknown attacker was shot down on a pitch in the Spanish town of Mocejon near Toledo. attacked an 11-year-old boy. According to local media, the child was on the pitch with two friends when a young man entered the area. The attacker wounded Mateo at least 11 times. Three of the blows hit the victim in the chest, reports the Spanish daily “ABC”.
Emergency services were immediately called to the scene. A helicopter was also dispatched to transport the injured child to the hospital. However, before the paramedics arrived, the boy had already suffered cardiac arrest. Despite the efforts of the medics, Mateo's resuscitation was unsuccessful. The children who were on the pitch with the boy managed to escape from the aggressor. They did not sustain any injuries. Mateo was unable to escape.
The attacker was recorded by cameras
The “ABC” daily reports that at the time of the attack the perpetrator had his face covered with a scarf. According to witnesses, whose accounts are quoted by “Marca”, he could have been between 16 and 18 years old, slim and with blond hair. He escaped from the scene through a hole in the fence. He was later reported to have been driving a grey Ford Mondeo – local media report. The “OK Diario” tabloid adds that it was recorded by surveillance cameras at a facility adjacent to the pitch.
Due to the secrecy of the investigation ordered by the local court, the services are not publicly commenting on the details of the murder of the 11-year-old. The boy's family has no suspicions about the identity of the perpetrator. “Mocejon is a quiet town, things like this have never happened here before,” Asell Sanchez, Mateo's cousin, told “ABC”.
In solidarity with the murdered man's loved ones, the Mocejon city council decided to declare three days of mourning in the city. On Monday, the 11-year-old's memory was also honored in front of the Toledo Provincial Council building. A minute of silence was held there. The 17-year-old who was murdered last week in the town of Otero was also remembered.
