The Spanish Civil Guard has arrested a young man suspected of fatally attacking an 11-year-old boy. The attack took place on a football pitch in Mocejon, central Spain. According to media reports, the boy was wounded at least 11 times. The city has declared three days of mourning. The child's death was also honored with a minute of silence.
At around 10 a.m. on Sunday, an unknown attacker was shot down on a pitch in the Spanish town of Mocejon near Toledo. attacked an 11-year-old boy. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene. A helicopter was also dispatched to transport the injured child to hospital. Before the rescuers arrived, the boy had suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite the rescuers' efforts, the boy died. The children who were on the pitch with the boy managed to escape from the aggressor. They were not injured.
On Monday evening, Spanish media, including the daily El Pais, reported that the Civil Guard had detained a young man suspected of attacking an 11-year-old boy.

The “ABC” daily reports that at the time of the attack the perpetrator had his face covered with a scarf. According to witnesses, whose accounts are quoted by “Marca”, he could have been between 16 and 18 years old, slim and with blond hair. He escaped from the scene through a hole in the fence. Later, as reported by local media, the perpetrator was supposed to be driving a grey Ford Mondeo, but the services denied this. The “OK Diario” tabloid adds that it was recorded by surveillance cameras at a facility adjacent to the pitch.

On Monday, the 11-year-old's memory was also honored in front of the Toledo Provincial Council building. A minute of silence was declared there.
