Spain. A coach accident near the Picos de Europa park in Asturias

Near the Picos de Europa park in Spanish Asturias, there was an accident of a bus carrying several dozen tourists, including 25 children. At least nine people were injured.

According to the Civil Guard information, the bus with 48 passengers was traveling along the high mountain road from Covadonga to the Picos de Europa National Park. For unknown reasons, the vehicle suddenly left the road, rolled over twice and stopped on a mountain slope.

Ambulances, fire brigade and police rushed to the scene. The two most seriously injured women were taken to the hospital by helicopter.

According to transport company Alsa, nine passengers with various degrees of bruises and fractures needed medical attention. All the children suffered minor injuries.

Investigated causes of the accident

The police and services are investigating the causes of the accident. The transport company to which the coach belongs assured that the driver has over 20 years of work experience, and the less than 10-year-old vehicle has passed all inspections.

As a result of the accident, the only road to the Picos de Europa National Park was cut off to traffic. About 1,000 visitors to the tourist region were evacuated in buses and taxis during the day.
