Spain, Algeciras. Samurai sword attack on two churches. There are victims


Two churches in Algeciras in southern Spain were attacked with a samurai sword. The perpetrator is supposed to be the same person who has already been arrested by the police. There is at least one victim of the attack, several people were injured.

A sacristan was killed in the attack, and one of the four wounded is the parish priest, reports the Spanish daily “El Mundo”. The priest is in serious condition. Police said the attacker, aged around 30, has been arrested.

According to “El Mundo”, he was supposed to attack first in the San Isidro chapel, located in one of the most popular districts of the city, and then in the church of La Palma. The two temples are about 500 meters apart.

“The facts are being investigated and analysed, but it is not yet possible to determine the nature of the attack,” the Spanish Interior Ministry said. The police are investigating the incident.

Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, head of the Andalusian autonomous government, tweeted that this was a terrible event. He said his circumstances were being investigated and condemned the crime. “Intolerance will never have a place in our society,” he added.
