On Saturday, rescue services found the body of a woman who had been missing since Monday in the province of Toledo, in the central part of the country. This increased the number of deaths from heavy rains and flash floods to six.
The body of a 54-year-old woman was found by police tracking dogs in a marshy area between two vineyards in the Valmojado commune, the Spanish Gendarmerie (Guardia Civil) said in a statement.
On Monday, a wanted woman’s car was found near one of the roads, and was probably carried away by the rising waters of one of the nearby streams. Investigators believe that the current of water caught the driver of the car, a resident of the Toledo area, when she tried to leave the vehicle.
Several victims of downpours
On Friday, it was reported that the bodies of two men had been found. One of the victims was an 83-year-old man who was swept away by floodwaters near his home in Villamanta. The second person killed was a middle-aged man whose car was pulled into the river by fast-flowing water.
According to information provided by Reuters, a total of six people died as a result of flash floods following Sunday and Monday’s heavy rainfall in central Spain. The greatest damage was reported in the province of Toledo and Madrid.
