Part of Valencia was hit by violent storms with hail and heavy rain. On Thursday, a thick, white layer of ice covered the streets and fields. Storms caused damage to agriculture, local authorities are considering announcing the state of natural disaster.
Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall passed over Spanish Valencia on Thursday after 4pm. The phenomenon was caused by the atmospheric front rolling through this region. Hail rainfall was short -lived, but very intense. As the local media reported, in some places the white cover reached a thickness of several centimeters, completely covering the streets, fields or roofs.
“It looked as if snowing”
The streets in several cities of the region were covered with grad spas mixed with mud. The hail caused the greatest damage in the municipalities of Villar del Arzobispo and Pedralba. Their authorities are considering announcing the state of natural disaster. Gradzins caused huge damage to agriculture and fruit -growing – on Friday they were estimated at around 40 million euros.
“It looked like snowing,” said Ramon Vidal, the mayor of the L'Olleria commune.
In the Casinos commune, the rain fell for an hour, which led to floods and local floods. In the capital of the province it also rained.
The violent weather also led to difficulties in traffic traffic in the region – delays appeared. Several fires also broke out thunderbow strokes.
