Heavy snowfall led to the closure of dozens of roads in northern Spain. On the road between Pamplona and the town of Vitoria-Gasteiz, due to the residual snow, drivers were stuck for at least 15 hours at a nearby gas station.
The snowstorms were brought to the northern regions of Spain by Arwen’s storm. Heavy rainfall occurred on Saturday and Sunday. The highest level meteorological alerts have been issued for the Basque Country, the provinces of Navarre and Cantabria.
Traffic problems were reported on Sunday on 139 roads in the northern part of the country. Dozens of them have been closed.
The drivers are stuck
On Sunday, some truck drivers were stuck for at least 15 hours at a gas station near the expressway connecting the towns of Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Autonomous Community with Pamplona, the capital of the province of Navarre. Due to heavy rainfall and snowfall, truck traffic was forbidden.
The Spanish transport minister said that 847 snowplows hit the streets on Saturday.
