Spain. The police informed over 7,000 women that their partners had committed domestic violence in the past

As part of an information campaign, the Spanish police notified over seven thousand women that their partners had committed domestic violence against their former partners in the past. Over the last two decades, 1,237 women died as a result of domestic violence in Spain.

As Cadena Ser radio reported on Friday, the information campaign of the Spanish police is based on the regulations of the Ministry of the Interior adopted in February 2023 and is intended to reduce the scale of domestic violence in families.

Domestic violence in Spain

According to the radio station, there are currently over 21,000 men throughout Spain who are listed in police statistics as having committed domestic violence against their wives or partners in the past.

Data from the Ministry of Equality show that between January 1 and November 8 this year, 52 women died in Spain at the hands of their husbands or partners, which is two more compared to the entire year 2022.

Over the last two decades, 1,237 women died in Spain as a result of domestic violence.
