We count on cooperation with the new Polish government to further strengthen Polish-American relations, including in supporting Ukraine, said a spokesman for the US Department of State, commenting on the election of Donald Tusk as prime minister.

The Sejm elected on Monday evening as part of the so-called the second constitutional step of the chairman of the Civic Platform Donald Tusk for prime minister. 248 MPs voted in favor of it, 201 were against and no one abstained.

Earlier, I congratulated Tusk on his election as prime minister delivered by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. “The future of Ukraine and Poland lies in unity, mutual assistance and strategic partnership,” he emphasized. The head of the Ukrainian government, Denys Shmyhal, also expressed congratulations.

This was the first reaction of the US authorities to the election of Donald Tusk as prime minister Sejm of the Republic of Poland.
