Protesters in Sri Lanka broke into the headquarters of President Gotabayi Rajapaksa in Colombo on Saturday, foreign media reports. According to Reuters – citing sources in the defense ministry – the state leader left the palace earlier.

On Saturday morning in the capital Sri Lanka One of the biggest protests in the history of the country broke out in Colombo. Thousands of people took to the streets. Demonstrators blame the government for bringing the country into economic ruin.

Foreign media reports that protesters broke into the presidential palace. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was due to leave the building early, sources in the defense ministry told Reuters.
