Firefighters have been fighting a fire in a hall in Przylep, where dangerous substances were stored, since Saturday. Firefighting operations ended on Sunday evening. The Provincial Branch of the Association of Volunteer Fire Brigades in Zielona Góra applied to the Marshal of the Lubuskie Voivodeship, Elżbieta Polak, with a request to finance the research of firefighters who put out the fire in Przylepa.

– Firefighters after the action in Przylepa were taken care of by the governor and the State Fire Brigade, but in terms of retrofitting and reconstruction of lost equipment, but their health is very important. They came to us and said they felt anxious. These were actions for several, sometimes several hours in polluted air and they do not know what the effects will be on their health – tells us Elżbieta Polak, director of the Provincial Branch of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Association in Zielona Góra.

Due to the fact that the Voivodeship Occupational Medicine Center operates in Zielona Góra, which is subordinate to the marshal’s office, the union applied to the marshal to finance examinations for firefighters participating in the firefighting operation.

Research to check “if any toxic substances have entered the bodies of firefighters”

– We suggested to the marshal that she take blood tests on all firefighters who participated in the incident. We didn’t just talk about volunteers, but about everyone, so if they want to, officers of the State Fire Service can also use it, our interlocutor said.

She added: – Tests are there to reassure firefighters and make sure they are okay.

– There was one person who had shortness of breath, one was burned, but so far there are no reports of serious consequences, nor symptoms from the respiratory or skin systems – Elżbieta Polak said.

And as she explained, blood tests are to answer the question of whether any toxic substances have entered the bodies of firefighters. Estimates show that a total of about 200 firefighters took part in the firefighting operation.

The idea met with approval. Talks are underway as to where, when and in what form the tests will be conducted.

They are applying for funds to “restore lost and damaged” equipment

The union also applied to the marshal for funds to reconstruct the equipment lost and destroyed during the operation. The Voivodship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Zielona Góra – as reported by Elżbieta Polak – allocated one million zlotys for this purpose for the state and volunteer fire brigade.
