On Monday afternoon, a violent storm passed over Jelenia Góra. According to firefighters, a fire broke out in one of the buildings after a lightning strike. Characteristic mammatus clouds also hung over the city.

Although Monday was hot and sunny in most of the country, the first clouds appeared in the southwest in the afternoon. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued orange alerts before storms for some counties of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

Fire after lightning strike

The storm was particularly hard on the residents of Jelenia Góra, where there was heavy rainfall. As he said in an interview with the editorial office Contact24 Capt. Krzysztof Zakrzewski, press officer of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Jelenia Góra, a fairly large storm passed over the city, as a result of which 17 interventions were recorded.

Mammatus clouds were also visible over the city. They most often appear in the sky in the company of stratocumulus and cumulonimbus clouds, less frequently cirrus, cirrocumulus, altostratus and altocumulus. This phenomenon usually occurs at the base or in the lower part of the cumulonimbus anvil, i.e. a storm cloud. The presence of characteristic “udders” indicates particularly high convection intensity.
