Wednesday was another day of storms. In Tarnów County (Małopolskie), the wind tore the roofs off two houses. Firefighters were also called to broken trees, rain flooded the streets, and heavy hail fell.
On Wednesday, Poland was crossed by storms with heavy rainfall. In the east of the country it may still be dangerous during the night hours. Warnings issued by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management are in force.
Ripped off roofs in Małopolska
In the Małopolska province, firefighters intervened 115 times due to storms and heavy rain, most often in Tarnowwhere they traveled 43 times.
In Tarnów County, the wind tore off two roofs from residential buildings. – The storm was huge. First, the foil was torn off, you couldn't see anything. A moment later, the roof went, everything was flying at once, bricks, chimneys – the owners of a house in Ładna in the Skrzyszów commune told TVN24.
The roof of a house in Poręba Radlna in the Tarnów commune was also damaged. – The roof structure was torn off, along with the roof covering – reported Captain Adam Dudek from the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Tarnów.
In both of these incidents, no one was injured.
Nearly 120 times, Podkarpacie firefighters were dispatched to remove the effects of intense storms that passed over part of the region in the late afternoon. The largest number of interventions was recorded in the Leżajsk, Rzeszów and Dębica counties.
Broken trees in the Podkarpacie region
The wind broke tree branches that blocked streets, sidewalks and fell on properties. Firefighters were called to remove them. – They also pumped water out of flooded houses and public utility buildings, cleared road culverts and removed water from flooded roads – said Brigadier Marcin Betleja, spokesman for the Podkarpackie fire department.
IN Rzeszow and in the Jasielski and Strzyżowski districts, three trees fell on cars parked underneath them. – Fortunately, no one was hurt, no one was in the vehicles – said the spokesman for the Podkarpacie firefighters.
Firefighters also helped secure damaged roofs on an outbuilding and a residential home.
In Rybnik, the streets “turned into rivers”
In various places, due to heavy rainfall, flooding and submergence occurred. As a result of the downpour that passed through Rybnik (Silesian Province), streets were flooded. The officer on duty at the control center of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service reported that three roads were flooded.
As the website rybnik.com.pl wrote, “a dozen or so minutes of heavy rain were enough and the streets turned into rivers.”
Roads were under water in ZamoscAs reported by IMWMthe cumulative rainfall there was 134 liters per square meter.
Roads were also flooded in Goczałkowice-Zdrój in the Silesian province and the towns of Podobin and Grybów in the Lesser Poland province.
Large hail
Thunderstorms and heavy rain are accompanied by hail. On Kontakt24 we received a recording showing a powerful hailstorm that hit the village of Iwkowa (Lesser Poland Voivodeship). The hailstones were several centimetres in diameter.
