A cold front with storms passed over Poland on Wednesday. As a result of the violent weather, Opole firefighters intervened dozens of times. Their activities consisted mainly of removing fallen tree branches. Firefighters in Greater Poland also had their hands full. In the town of Jeziory Małe in Środa County, the attic of a building caught fire due to a lightning strike.
On Wednesday, there was thunder in, among others, Silesia, Mazovia, the Opole region, the Łódź region, Greater Poland, Warmia and Masuria.

Interventions in the Opole region
As a result of the storms that passed over the Opole Voivodeship on Wednesday, firefighters participated in 40 interventions related to removing the effects of strong wind and rainfall – said the officer on duty of the State Fire Service in Opole.
In the Strzelce district, firefighters were called to a woman who drove her car into a huge puddle. The vehicle stalled and the woman trapped inside was freed by rescuers.
Under By the shore a fallen tree blocked part of the road to Opole, and a tree branch damaged the windshield of a passenger car. Fortunately, no one was injured. In Kluczbork County, the wind tore off the tin roof covering of a farm building.
In Greater Poland, lightning struck a building
As the Wielkopolska firefighter on duty said, in connection with storms passing over Greater Poland – until the evening hours on Wednesday – about 70 reports were received throughout the region. The officer on duty indicated that the interventions concerned mainly fallen trees and local flooding. A more serious incident occurred on Wednesday before noon in Jeziory Małe in the Środa Poviat. As the dispatcher said, “there was a fire in the attic of a single-family building lightning strikes“There were no injuries in this incident.
