Strong tremors in Afghanistan. They were felt in Pakistan and India

A strong 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan on Tuesday evening. Its hypocenter was at a depth of more than 190 kilometers. Tremors were also felt in India and Pakistan.

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said on Tuesday evening.

The quake’s hypocenter was at a depth of 194 kilometers and the epicenter was 47 kilometers from the city of Ashkasham.

Felt in neighboring countries

India’s ANI news agency reported that the tremors were felt in the capital, New Delhi. In turn, Reuters, citing information from witnesses, reported that it could also be felt in the Afghan capital – Kabul, and in northern Pakistan.

There is no information on whether the quake caused damage or casualties.

In June 2022, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan killed over 1,000 people.
