On Saturday, there is very strong wind in Pomerania, among others. Damage was reported in the Gdańsk Zoo. The zoo authorities decided to close it. The ice rink in the city is also closed.
“The zoo is closed today! Due to strong wind, threat to animals and our guests and the need to remove the damage,” it was announced on Saturday on the Gdańsk Zoo’s social media profile. It was emphasized that unfavorable weather conditions are forecast for the whole day.
Zoo representatives added that none of the animals suffered as a result of the storm. After the wind knocked down one of the trees, the fence and information boards were damaged.
Due to strong winds, a decision was made to close the Gdańsk Ice Rink.
Before noon in Gdańsk the wind gusted to 86 kilometers per hour. The wind is expected to decrease over the next few hours, but it will still blow strongly. Alerts from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management apply.
Storm on the Baltic Sea
A level two storm warning has also been issued. It is valid from 10 a.m. to midnight in the eastern part of the coastal zone – from the Rozewie lighthouse to the eastern border of the state – said Marta Formella from the City Hall in Gdańsk.
Forecasters say that at this time there will be a westerly wind with a force of 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts reaching 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale.
