Finally, women and their partners have the right to free treatment in vitro. Soon a thousandth citizen or citizen from the program will be born – said Minister of Health Izabela Leszczyn during Wednesday's speech in the Sejm. The program has been operating since June last year and is part of the government package “Conscious, Safe Self”.
As the Ministry of Health informed in response to the request of the economist RafaÅ‚ Mundre, in 2024 alone, over 28,000 par 23.5 thousand couples were qualified for treatment last year, in 2025 (until June 30) – almost 8.5 thousand par.
Almost 13,000 pregnancies
“From the information held by the Ministry of Health as at 30.04.2025, 12755 pregnancies were obtained” – we read in response.
The program is implemented by 58 medically assisted procreation centers. Almost PLN 411 million was allocated to its implementation last year. The amount allocated in 2025 is almost 399 million. The annual assigned amount of allocation is 500 million, and PLN 2.5 billion was planned for the implementation of the program by the end of 2028.
Who can use the program?
As we read on the website of the Ministry of Health, the program finances the entire in vitro procedure. The qualification of couples, compulsory examinations and all parts of the in vitro procedure that are needed for its effective and safe conduct are reimbursed.
The program includes couples:
- with confirmed or ineffectively treated infertility within 12 months before reporting to the program,
- which are married or in joint life,
- Also those that have cryoconsed and stored embryos as part of previously implemented procedures.
Free in vitro can be used:
- women up to 42 years old – if they use their own eggs or semen donation,
- women up to 45 years old – if they use oocytes or embryo donation,
- Men up to 55 years old.
The program includes 6 individual procedures for supported reproduction in various variants. This can be up to 4 fertilization cycles with your own reproductive cells or semen donation, up to 2 fertilization cycles with donors – with the possibility of fertilization of 6 reproductive cells in one cycle and up to 6 cycles with germ donation.
Oncoplate is also important
Patients with oncological diseases who want to have children can protect fertility for the future. It involves downloading and storing gametes before or during oncological treatment. In this case, women are offered to freeze oocytes, while in men – freezing semen. In this case, the program includes women from maturation to 40 years of age and men from adolescence to 45 years of age.
