The Mexican city of Puebla was hit by a powerful hailstorm. In places, the streets were covered with a one and a half-meter layer of ice. The phenomenon occurred suddenly during the ongoing heatwave in the country.

Suprise storm hail reached the Mexican city of Puebla on Friday, covering the streets with thick banks of ice. As reported by local media, hail reached a height of up to one and a half meters in some places, turning the streets into icy rivers. There is no information about any injured people.

Heavy hailstorm in Mexico

The hailstorm caused extensive damage to some homes, blocking roads and downing trees. After the storm, residents had to shovel ice and mud.

– We were about to sit down to eat when suddenly it started raining very heavily. My daughter told us to run away. When everything started falling apart, we ran to our cousin's house. We took shelter there and watched what the weather was doing to our house, said one of the residents of the house that was damaged by the violent weather.

The hailstorm occurred during Mexico's third heat wave. Temperatures are expected to exceed 45 degrees Celsius in nine states across the country in the coming time.
