Klemens Haselsteiner, the head of Strabag, has died – the company announced in a press release. According to information provided by the Austrian media, the cause of death of the 44-year-old billionaire was a brain aneurysm.
“It is with great sadness that we inform you that Klemens Haselsteiner died suddenly and unexpectedly on January 17, 2025. All our thoughts go to the mourning family,” we read in the company's statement.
Haselsteiner will take over as head of the Strabag group in 2023. His duties are to be temporarily taken over by the remaining members of the management board, i.e. Christian Harder, Jörg Rösler, Siegfried Wanker and Alfred Watzl.

According to information provided by the “Kleine Zeitung” daily Klemens Haselsteiner's cause of death was a brain aneurysm.
“Klemens Haselsteiner not only wanted to change something. He simply did it. He gave character to STRABAG. He inspired our industry – as a visionary, originator, enthusiast. But above all, as a person. Economically and structurally, STRABAG is as strong today as it was yesterday. We have a clear vision of the future. And we are incredibly grateful to Klemens Haselsteiner for this,” the company emphasized in a statement.
According to “Kleine Zeitung”, construction has been one of Haselsteiner's passions for years. – I like that it's about real products, we create something tangible. Things that influence society and the landscape of cities for decades. You have to be a little crazy to do that. Our projects are complex, always unique, implemented regardless of the weather. It's never boring, Haselsteiner said in one of his interviews for the daily.
Currently, Strabag is one of the largest construction concerns in Europe, employing over 80,000 employees. In Poland, the company began its operations in 1987 with preparations for the construction of the Marriott hotel in Warsaw – it is reported on the company's website.
