Six police stations in the districts near Warsaw will not be on night shifts. According to RMF FM, the Warsaw Police Headquarters is also analyzing the possibility of liquidating the 24-hour service in other units of the garrison. The reason is the poor staffing situation. KSP explains that the reduction in working hours is a temporary decision and has its advantages.

According to the RMF FM reporter, the restrictions apply to, among others: Piaseczno County. Where there are police stations, i.e. in Konstancin, Góra Kalwaria or Lesznowola, police officers will be on duty from 8 am to 8 pm. After this time, they will be able to be contacted by phone.

Round-the-clock duty was also eliminated in the Otwock poviat: in Józefów and Karczew. In turn, in the poviat headquarters in Wołomin or Pruszków, the situation is not yet clear, analyzes are underway.

10 percent of vacancies, things will get worse

In mid-January we informed on tvnwarszawa.pl that cops are retiring en masse, most of them are to disappear from the streets of the capital. According to the findings of tvn24.pl reporter Robert Zieliński, this year from 5.5 to even over 7 thousand officers will leave the Polish police. In the Warsaw garrison, which should have almost 10,000 officers, about 10 percent of the posts are vacant. And it will be worse, because – as noted by RMF FM – another 900 policemen reported their willingness to leave at the beginning of this year.

Why are police officers so en masse deciding to retire this year? According to uniformed trade unionists, financial factors are decisive. In recent years, the government and the Ministry of the Interior, which supervises the uniformed services, have worked out wage increases for the oldest officers and the youngest. – They did not take care of those who have several years of service. There was no sensible offer for us – a police officer from the Warsaw Police Department explained to us.

Police patrol KSP

The police explain: only a dozen reports at night

The KSP spokesman, Chief Commissioner Sylwester Marczak, writes about the reasons why the Warsaw Police Headquarters decided to limit the hours of duty service in some police stations. He explains that several factors influenced this decision.

“First of all, our priority is to provide as many patrol services as possible. By limiting the duty service in individual police stations to 8 or 10 pm, police officers will be closer to the public, which undoubtedly affects the sense of security of the inhabitants of individual communes. After limiting the working hours of police stations, residents agree with local jurisdiction will be able to submit notifications to Poviat Police Headquarters” – Marczak points out.

“Secondly, the analysis of the number of reports coming to police stations at night showed that at that time the duty service recorded only a dozen or so reports a year, which is why shifting the duty service to the patrol service is absolutely justified. The police stations in Nadarzyn, Jaktorów and Milanówek” – informs the spokesman of the capital’s police.

Finally, he emphasizes: “I would like to point out that the decision to limit the hours of duty duty is temporary.”
