Susan Wojcicki, former YouTube CEO, has died, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced on social media on Saturday. The American businesswoman with Polish roots had been battling cancer for two years. She was 56.

“I am incredibly saddened by the loss of my dear friend Susan Wojcicki,” Sundar Pichai wrote on the X platform. He noted that the woman had been battling cancer for two years.

He emphasized that Wojcicki has made history at Google. “It's hard to imagine a world without her. She was an incredible person, leader, and friend who had a huge impact on the world. (…) We will miss her very much. Our thoughts are with her family,” we read in the post.

Susan Wojcicki has been with Google (Google acquired YouTube in 2006) since its earliest days, when its founders were working on the first version of the search engine in a garage. She has worked at the company for almost 25 years, almost 10 of which as head of YouTube. She resigned from that position in February 2023.
