Swan Lake, Iława. The body of a fisherman who fell from a boat was found

In Lake Łabędź (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship), divers found the body of a 63-year-old fisherman who had been missing for several hours, the police informed. He is one of two men who fell into the water after the boat capsized. The younger angler managed to swim to the shore.

According to preliminary police findings, two residents of Iława set out from Rudzienice in a rowing boat in the afternoon. At one point, due to strong winds, the boat capsized and they fell into the water. One of the anglers, a 40-year-old man, managed to swim to the shore. He stopped a passing driver and called the emergency services by phone.

The rescue and search operation on the lake lasted several hours. As informed by junior brig. Krzysztof Rutkowski from the Iława fire brigade, after pinpointing the location by sonar, the diver retrieved the body from a depth of eight meters, about one hundred meters from the shore.

– He is a wanted 63-year-old man, he was recognized by his closest family – said Asp. pcs. Joanna Kwiatkowska from the police in Iława.

An investigation team is working on site, which, under the supervision of the prosecutor, will determine the exact circumstances of this tragic event.
