There was a tragic accident on a roller coaster at the Grona Lund theme park in Stockholm. One person is dead and several are injured. Among the injured are children.

The Swedish news agency TT reported a fatality and several injuries, citing a spokeswoman for the theme park. “Unfortunately one person has died and we are completely devastated,” spokeswoman Annika Troselius said.

According to the portal of the newspaper “Expressen”, the fatality of the accident is a 35-year-old woman. Of the nine people taken to the hospital, three were seriously injured, according to the Stockholm Region authorities. Three children are slightly injured.

SVT television – citing eyewitness accounts – specified that the roller coaster Jetline derailed while driving.

The media reports that 14 passengers were riding the cable car, three people fell off – two were found on the ground and one stopped on the structure of the carousel. Other people were evacuated.

The cause of the accident is not yet known and police have launched an investigation.

According to Groen Lund’s website, the Jetline opened in 1988 and was modernized in 2000. It reaches speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour, is 800 meters long and reaches 30 meters at its highest point.

Located on the island of Djurgarden, the amusement park is one of the main attractions for children and teenagers in Stockholm. The Midsummer holiday weekend ends on Sunday.
