Sweden. Parliament agreed to send combat aircraft to Poland

Sweden Parliament agreed to stationing eight multi -purpose Gripen combat aircraft in Poland. As part of NATO surgery, Swedish Air Force will guard the transfer of military assistance to Ukraine.

The decision, announced by the center-right government of the prime minister Ulf Krisersson at the beginning of March, in addition to the coalition and opposition social democrats, also supported the opposite entrance of Sweden to NATO, the Environmental Protection-Zieloni Party and the Left party.

– Poland took a lot of responsibility for helping Ukraine and was exposed to sabotage acts – he justified the consent to the proposal of the government Hakan Svenneling from the left party.

Other politicians explained participation in air operation in Poland with the “next degree” of Sweden's involvement in NATO. In January, the authorities in Stockholm sent 550 soldiers to Latvia, the presence of the Swedish army in Finland is planned.

During the debate, the security of the region and solidarity was talked. “If we do not protect our neighbors, then we can become the target of attacks,” Magnus Berntsson from Christian Democrats argued.

Gripen fighters to eight Swedish fighters are to be available for the needs of NATO air operation in Poland from May 1 to August 31. As estimated, the mission will involve participation of up to 150 soldiers, including pilots and ground staff.
