Sweden to NATO. Turkish President Erdogan has reservations, he spoke with Biden

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone with US President Joe Biden about Sweden joining NATO, the Turkish leader’s office said on Sunday. The talks took place two days before the North Atlantic Alliance summit in Vilnius.

President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the US president Joe Bidenthat Sweden has taken steps in the right direction by adopting the anti-terrorism law Türkiye approved its application for NATO membership. However, according to Erdogan’s office, the measures taken are not sufficient, as supporters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) continue to organize demonstrations in Sweden.

The PKK is treated by the authorities in Ankara as a terrorist organization. Apart from Turkey, Sweden’s accession to NATO is still being blocked Hungary.

F-16 deliveries from the US and Ukraine in NATO

According to the president’s office, the Turkish leader also talked with the US president about the delivery of American F-16 fighter jets to Turkey and the future status of Ukraine in NATO. The talks took place two days before the North Atlantic Alliance summit in Vilnius.
