About 90 hectares of grain burned on Saturday in a fire that took place in a field between Jeziory and Ojerzyce in the Świebodzin poviat (Lubuskie Voivodeship). Thirteen fire fighters assisted in putting out the fire. According to the fire brigade, the likely cause of the fire was a spark in the header of the combine harvester.

On Saturday around 6 p.m., firefighters received a report that there was a fire on a trunk between the towns of Jeziory and Ojerzyce in the Świebodzin district.

A spark from the combine caused the fire

– The fire spread very quickly. A total of 90 hectares burned. There were 13 fire brigades on site, but we also had a firefighting plane at our disposal, which helped a lot in the firefighting operation. No one was hurt – Arkadiusz Kaniak, the press officer of the Lubuskie fire brigade, told us.

According to Kaniak, the cause of the fire turned out to be a spark that was created in the header, i.e. the working part of the combine – it is responsible for cutting the grain and moving it inside the machine.

According to the firefighter’s account, the harvester operator noticed the flame, dropped the header and drove the harvester to a safe place, and then attempted to extinguish it. This, however, did not help and the fire spread to the grain. The heder was also completely burnt.
