Two men drowned on Saturday while kayaking on the Nida River in Sobowice (Świętokrzyskie). Their lives could not be saved, despite the undertaken rescue operation. As the spokeswoman for the Jędrzejów police, Staff Sergeant Beata Soboń, said, “the detailed circumstances of the event are being clarified”.

Information about the accident during the canoeing trip was received by the rescue services after 3 p.m. on Saturday. Nine people from Silesia participated in the expedition.

– At some point, the participants of the rafting noticed that one of the kayaks in which two men were sailing was empty – said brigadier Tomasz Szymański from the State Fire Service in Jędrzejów. As he added, the group turned back and pulled two companions out of the water. – Two emergency medical teams arrived at the scene. Rescuers took action on both victims, he said.

Staff Sergeant Beata Soboń, spokeswoman for the District Police Commander in Jędrzejów, reported that the 39-year-old and the 46-year-old could not be saved. She added that none of the other seven participants of the trip were injured.

– Police officers are working on the spot under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office. The details of the incident are under investigation, the spokeswoman added.
