There is a heatwave in Switzerland, very high temperatures are recorded in the mountains. Police in the south-west of the country have warned that this has increased the risk of falling rocks and ice in the Alpine region.

High temperatures cause the ice lying in the Alps to melt, as a result of which glaciers and seracs, as well as rock formations bound together by ice, may be displaced, posing a threat to mountaineers.

“With the heatwave that has occurred in recent days and will continue in the coming days, the level of danger in the high mountains has increased,” regional police spokesman Steve Leger said.
