In Switzerland, civil partnerships have been legal for 14 years, but they do not have the full rights of married couples. On Sunday, a referendum is held in which the Swiss decide to legalize same-sex marriage with the right to adopt children.
According to the predictions published by the Swiss broadcaster SRG, 64 percent of people voted “for”. The final results are to be known on Sunday.

“We are happy and relieved,” said Antonia Hauswirth of Marriage for All, quoted by Reuters. Amnesty International said in a statement that same-sex marriage permits are “a milestone for equality”.
Monika Rueegger of the right-wing Swiss People’s Party commented that she was disappointed with the expected result. – It’s not about love and affection. It is about the welfare of the children. Children are the losers here – she argued.
