A driver who almost caused a head-on collision with a police car in Szamotuły (Greater Poland Voivodeship) received a fine of PLN 1,500. The policeman braked sharply and pulled over to the side of the road.
On December 30, after 5 p.m., police officers from the Szamotuły traffic police were driving an unmarked police car when a vehicle coming from the opposite direction suddenly started overtaking. The car was heading straight for a police vehicle, whose driver braked sharply and drove to the side of the road, avoiding a head-on collision.
After a while, the driver of the police car turned around to stop the driver who had almost caused an accident a moment earlier.
– The officers took consequences against the driver of the Renault car, who was not careful when overtaking – says senior trainee Sandra Chuda, press officer of the Szamotuły police.
High mandate
A 24-year-old resident of Kościan County was fined PLN 1,500 and 10 penalty points.
– Let us remember that there is no room for mistakes when performing an overtaking maneuver, and irresponsible behavior may lead to tragedy. When starting an overtaking maneuver, we must be sure that it will be safe. Let's also make sure that overtaking is allowed in the place where we are, whether we have full visibility and whether there is no vehicle approaching from the opposite direction. If we are not sure whether we will be able to perform the maneuver on time, it is better to wait for a better opportunity, Chuda points out.
