The incident occurred on Tuesday at Primary School No. 23 at ul. Miernicza in Szczecin.

“We received a report that the battery broke out in the locker room. According to preliminary information, this event occurred during the play of students with a mobile phone. As a result of this fun, the battery on the phone caught fire,” said asp. Ewelina Gryszpan from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Szczecin.

Injured 26 people

26 people aged 9 to 14 were injured due to the smoke. Six emergency medical teams were in place.

“Patients reported such ailments as, among others, shortness of breath caused by exposure to fire fumes,” said Natalia Dorochowicz, spokeswoman for the Provincial Ambulance Station in Szczecin.

Four out of 26 injured were taken to hospital with such ailments as chest pain, nausea and dizziness.

“Policemen from the Szczecin-Dąbie Police Station conduct activities explaining the circumstances of this event. As always in the case of minors, the court will be informed about this event”-said Gryszpan.
