The new Minister of Agriculture, Robert Telus, meets with farmers protesting in Szczecin on Thursday. Demonstrators expect action on Ukrainian grain and support, not promises. Agricultural protest today also in Gdańsk and by the tracks from Ukraine in Hrubieszów.

The Minister of Agriculture appeared on Thursday in Szczecin. At 9 o’clock he was scheduled to meet with the Secretary of State Rafał Romanowski at the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority SA.

– We came once again to get acquainted with the situation, to meet and talk. There is a plan for us to start these talks widely today, not only in the port, and continue them later – said Robert Telus, Minister of Agriculture.

As he added, today’s meeting was initiated by farmers. – I have repeatedly said that the protests are very important and I understand the protesters – he stressed. When asked if he was not annoyed by farmers’ demonstrations, he replied: – If farmers annoyed me, I would not be the Minister of Agriculture.

Farmers are not giving up protests

Despite the arrival of Minister Telus, the protesters in Szczecin do not give up their activities and on Thursday they will again take tractors to the streets, blocking one of the main intersections, the entrance and exit from the city.

The protest lasted throughout the holidays. During Easter, farmers suspended blockades of streets in the center of Szczecin. However, they did not leave the green town. They were supported by their families and townspeople who wished them well and brought delicacies from the festive table.

Farmers want to regulate the supply of products from Ukraine

Recall that The protest of farmers in Szczecin began on March 23, 2023. Its participants they demand, among others regulation of the grain issue Ukraine. The demands of the protesters include: assistance in repaying loans taken for agricultural activity and the introduction of an “anti-crisis shield” for agriculture.

The protesters broke the so-called a green town on Wały Chrobrego in front of the seat of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Office in Szczecin.

Industry representatives are also protesting in other parts of the country. Agricultural protest today also in Gdańsk, and farmers have been demonstrating at the tracks from Ukraine in Hrubieszów since Wednesday.
