Szczecin police warn passengers against dangerous behaviour while driving. On the A6 motorway near Szczecin, there was a road accident involving three cars. One of the drivers did not keep a safe distance and drove into the car in front of him, which in turn hit the next one. The passenger of one of the vehicles had her legs on the dashboard at the time of the accident, and now she has broken them.
The Municipal Police Headquarters in Szczecin reported serious consequences of a road accident that occurred on the A6 near Szczecin. One of the drivers failed to keep a safe distance and three cars collided.
“The Toyota driver hit an Opel Vectra vehicle traveling in front of him, which, as a result of the rebound, hit another vehicle – a Toyota Avensis, driven by a woman with her feet on the dashboard,” reads the police statement.
As a result of the impact, the passenger broke both legs and was taken to hospital.
Dangerous behavior of a female passenger
Marek Zajdel, a road traffic expert and driving instructor, drew attention to the blatantly dangerous behavior of the passenger. “She caused a very dangerous situation for herself. If the airbag had deployed, this woman would have not only broken legs, but also serious spinal and hip injuries,” he explained. “In addition, such a position covers the right rear-view mirror and prevents the driver from using it,” he said.
Chief Inspector Anna Gembala, press officer from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Szczecin, reminded that keeping your feet on the dashboard can result in serious injury during even simple braking. – Basic safety rules say that the passenger should wear a seat belt and keep their feet on the ground – she added.
The road traffic expert noted that there are more examples of dangerous behaviour of passengers.
– Not wearing a seat belt, wearing it below the shoulder, moving to the back seat, distracting the driver by showing him something on the phone, unsecured animals or sleeping on a reclined seat. All of these can lead to serious accidents and consequences – he added.
The police also remind drivers that they are obliged to maintain an appropriate distance between cars traveling on the road.
