The Provincial Inspectorate of Environmental Protection in Szczecin discovered the illegal dismantling of a barge using a drone. This is another intervention against the same entrepreneur. Last year, a report was submitted to the prosecutor’s office about his crime. The investigation was discontinued because “this act does not constitute a prohibited act.” WIOŚ filed a complaint in this matter.

On December 29, 2023, while carrying out an inspection using a drone, inspectors of the Provincial Inspectorate of Environmental Protection detected illegal dismantling of a barge carried out by one of the entrepreneurs at Tama Pomorzańska Street in Szczecin.

The prosecutor’s office discontinued previous investigations

In the first half of 2023, Szczecin inspectors already detected the illegal dismantling of two barges on the river bank by the same entrepreneur. Then, the Provincial Inspectorate of Environmental Protection submitted two reports to the prosecutor’s office about committing a crime involving illegal cutting of barges.

On November 28, 2023, the Szczecin-Śródmieście district prosecutor’s office discontinued the investigation into these two cases, stating that this act did not constitute a prohibited act.

– We are waiting to hear what the court will say regarding the previous notifications. We do not rule out submitting another notification, said Michał Ruczyński from the Szczecin inspectorate.

For illegal dismantling of barges, an entrepreneur may receive an administrative fine of up to PLN 1 million for each barge.
