Szczecin. Illegal flammable waste dump

An illegal flammable waste dump was established in Goleniów County (West Pomeranian Voivodeship). The company on whose premises dangerous substances were found did not have the appropriate permit, and the waste was transported from other parts of the country. Six people were arrested in the case, three were arrested.

West Pomeranian police officers, under the supervision of the district prosecutor's office and in cooperation with the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection, discovered an illegal waste dump. Flammable substances were located in the Goleniów district, on the premises of a company that did not have a permit to store this type of materials. The basis for initiating an investigation into this matter were the results of activities carried out by the Provincial Inspectorates of Environmental Protection in Zielona Góra and Wrocław. The officers found that the waste was imported from across the country and that the documentation regarding it contained false information.

“Waste was confirmed to have been received in a place where it was not actually located, but was transported and stored in one of the communes of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship,” we read in the police statement.

Subinspector Alicja Śleciona, spokeswoman for the Provincial Police Headquarters in Szczecin, said that six people were detained in connection with the case. – The prosecutor's office brought charges against them, including inappropriate waste management. At the prosecutor's request, the court imposed temporary arrest on three of them, and other preventive measures were applied on the others, she explained.

An inspection was carried out at the landfill and an environmental protection expert took appropriate samples for specialized tests. Currently, the landfill area is under inspection by a team appointed by the Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection.

The suspects face up to 15 years in prison. The matter is of a developing nature.
