An unexploded bomb from World War II was found at a construction site near the “Nowa Cukrownia” housing estate in Szczecin. Residents of nearby blocks will be evacuated while the projectile is being retrieved on Thursday morning, and a no-go zone will be designated. Some streets will be closed in both directions, and services will be directing traffic on site.

The evacuation – which is planned for Thursday morning – will include residents of nine buildings located on Eugeniusz Kwiatkowskiego Street. A bus will be provided for the evacuated residents at the bus terminus near the intersection of Cukrowa and Husarów Streets.

– The bus with the evacuated people will move outside the danger zone – said Dariusz Sadowski, spokesman for the City Hall in Szczecin.

The evacuation is to be completed by 9 a.m. Then, until the threat ceases, a ban on staying in open spaces will apply. This applies to the area designated by the following streets: PoÅ‚udniowa from the intersection with Radomska to Rondo Hakena (exclusively), Floriana Krygiera from Rondo Hakena (exclusively) to Cukrowa, Cukrowa from Floriana Krygiera to Radomska, Janina SmoleÅ„ska aka “Jachna” from no. 35 (Remondis Szczecin Sp. z oo) to the intersection with ul. Husarów and the entire ul. Husarów.

Difficulties on roads and in public transport

During the sapper works, the following streets will be impassable in both directions: PoÅ‚udniowa from the intersection with Radomska to Rondo Hakena (exclusively), Floriana Krygiera from Rondo Hakena (exclusively) to Cukrowa, Cukrowa from Floriana Krygiera to Radomska, Radomska, Janiny SmoleÅ„ska alias “Jachna” from no. 35 (Remondis Szczecin Sp. z oo) to the intersection with ul. Husarów, the entire ul. Husarów and ul. Cedrowa – exit to ul. Krygiera. Due to the lifting of the explosion, there will also be difficulties in public transport. From 8:30 a.m. until further notice, temporary restrictions and changes will be introduced, including on lines 60 and 61.

– It will be possible to enter the Hakena roundabout from ul. Krygiera from the direction of Podjuchy and the PrzecÅ‚aw bypass and exit in these directions. The exit towards the Center and ul. Krygiera towards PrzecÅ‚aw will be closed – Sadowski said.
