Taiwan coastal guard detained two Chinese who came to one of the Taiwanese islands. They face up to five years in prison and a high fine. This is another similar incident recently. The authorities in Taipei accuse Beijing that these are intentional actions to “intimidate” Taiwanese.

The event took place on Tuesday morning. The Taiwan Coast Guard reported in a statement that she noticed two men who, with a small boat, came to the Taiwan island of Erdan in the Kinmen poviat, although located only 5 km from the territory China. A patrol was sent to the place and in less than three hours men, both are China citizens, they were detained. Speculation about how they managed to overcome over 100 km of the Taiwan Strait, which is one of the strongest patrolled places in the region. The authorities in Taipei accuse Beijing that these incidents are a deliberate action for “intimidating” Taiwanese, writes the BBC.

At the same time, Tuesday's detention took place on the day of the first anniversary The swearing-in of President Taiwan Lai Ching-Te, also known as William Lai.
